Is porn good or bad for you?

In the past few decades, the porn industry has boomed with the help of the internet and is probably one of the most profitable industries. It started with printed dirty magazines, then in the 80s' and 90s' you could rent dirty videos. Soft porn was seeing ladies naked, and hard-core porn was seeing naked action. As the porn industry took over the internet, the previously hard-core style porn became the norm, the soft-porn category. It makes us wonder if it's something healthy or really bad for us.

Let's see. Any time I talk to people, especially working girls, they all say that these porn movies twist people and made everything a lot worse. Many of my clients talk about how they have to watch more and more aggressive porn to get aroused, and many of them claim that they cannot get aroused with real=world females. I can see many clients who can only have an orgasm if they jerk off and they have to jerk so aggressively that their skin nearly comes off. I met many guys who get a really unrealistic idea of what women want or what a relationship is. Many choose it to find an easy way to get a release.... porn movies are always available 24/7 as long as you want and any time you want.. Instant without any questions. So, the question is:

Is it harmful or not?

The answer is in neuroscience, in neuroplasticity to be more precise. If you believe that it's not harmful to you it means that you have no idea how your nervous system works.

Anything in moderation is fine but when it gets excessive and compulsive, there is a huge issue.

When you watch porn in moderation, you can get ideas about your likes and dislikes. Watching porn activates the reward system of your brain that creates dopamine. Dopamine is created when you do/see/try something new. It's essential for life. It's also created when you use drugs or sugar.

There is another part of the brain that is linked to rewards, but this part creates vasopressin, which gives you the feeling of fulfillment, calm, and euphoria.

The problem is that neurons that fire together wire together. The more often you do it to easier it fires, so you will need to push it for more and harder because your nervous sytem builds up a tolerance. The same thing happens with coffee, alcohol, drugs, etc: you need more to get the same effect, although it will never be the same as in the beginning. That's how addiction of any kind starts. Instead of going for pleasure now, you have to do it to avoid the pain.

Maybe you don't believe me. That's ok. Have you heard of Pavlov's experiment with the dog, the food, and the bell? Just Google it, if you haven't. It is way too easy to condition our nervous system to unhealthy patterns. What do I mean by unhealthy? When it controls you when it steals your focus and your pleasure form life.

So, is it bad or good for you? It is you who has to decide as we are all different. Does it help you to have better and more satisfying sexual encounters or not? That is your answer.

How can you unwire your brain? That's going to be another blog.
